How do you get rid of algie bloom in ponds?

we have tried everything (the stuff that says it gets rid of algae, liquid shade, bacteria treatments, barley, even had the algae eating fish) but nothing works, we have a 150 gallon pond with 3 turtles living in it. we clean out our pond and change the water and filter every couple weeks. How do you get rid of algie bloom in ponds?
Your best bet would be to use chlorine, (very diluted), seeing as it's freshwater, right? There are other acids and bases you can find a a hot tub store you can use to.

I have a pink flowering dogwood, but it has yet to fully bloom. I've only had it a year. What's wrong?

I would plant another one for them to pollinate usually by early april they will bloom.

Good LuckI have a pink flowering dogwood, but it has yet to fully bloom. I've only had it a year. What's wrong?
It has taken 7 years for ours to produce its first show of bloom this spring.

Apparently they need a long time to get established.I have a pink flowering dogwood, but it has yet to fully bloom. I've only had it a year. What's wrong?
wait another 2 weeks
this unusually cold weather. you are not doing anything wrong
Pink and red dogwoods are slower to bloom than the white. Just give it more time. The weather has been unusually cold this year, that may be slowing it down also.
Give it some more time.

Is anyone else out there a fan of the book ';Rose in Bloom'; by Louisa May Alcott?

If you are, please tell me why you appreciate it, how it has influenced your life, if you relate to the characters, if any of the characters remind you of people you know, and/or any other details you want to include. It helped to shape my ideals, and I'm curious to know whether this book has influenced the lives of other people out there. Is anyone else out there a fan of the book ';Rose in Bloom'; by Louisa May Alcott?
I liked it, it was very well written and very good. I never thought about relating charaters. I liked Uncle Alec alot. He was a good person.

Why doesn't my rose bush bloom?

I have a climbing rose bush and for some reason I don't have any blooms on it. It is growing quite well, but still no blooms. Last year it bloomed all the time. Any suggestions? Why doesn't my rose bush bloom?
I always save banana peelings %26amp; coffee grounds and put around the bottoms of the rose bushes and continue all thru summer and fall you will see a big difference in the blooming and the branches themselves. If you dont have coffee grounds you can also use tea bags but they need to be wet.Good luck with the blooms. Why doesn't my rose bush bloom?
check the ph of your soil, add some bone meal and a specific rose fertilizer.
roses are acidic plants. and the rose has already taken all the acid out of the soil. just sprincle some epsom salt around the base of the plant. that will make it bloom beautifuly. also if u are spraying the leaves of the plant stop. roses dont respond to it well. just water it on the base. just sprincle the epsom salt on it 1time a month.

good luck.
You need to fertilize.
fertilize with a mix of manure and compost.use only organic ferts.prune!prune!prune! one of the biggest mistakes is not pruning.cut each stem down to the next five leaf.as for climbing roses,(wild roses)a hard pruning can only help.dont take more than one third at a time.also a product by fox farms called tiger bloom work wonders.good luck
I'm assuming you fertilized it in the Spring- but maybe it was the wrong kind (try Miracle Grow for Roses- that works pretty good for me). Also make sure your bush is getting at least 5 hours of DIRECT sun every day (roses will grow in the shade- they just won't bloom). You also could have the odd bush- that for reasons all its own- blooms every other year (I've had a couple of THOSE- never could figure out why they did that). If you don't get any flowers next year- tear the bushes out %26amp; plant new ones. Don't give up!
it may depend on the climate of the region in which you are residing. i find roses flourish in very wet and temperate enviroments (England, for example) has your region been experiencing a drought?
roses need a few years to mature before they actually bud huge roses
Check the pH with any soil test kit. If the pH is too far off the plant will not be able to properly utilizes the nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in your fertilizers.

Most roses grow well with a soil pH of 5.5 to 7, although a pH of 6.5 is ideal. If you find that the pH is too high there are several things you can do to lower the pH including adding coffee grinds as a topping to the soil. If you find your pH is too low you can use limestone.

Compost can also help as a top dressing it helps maintain a somewhat neutral pH (7.0 +/-).
Put a banana peel in the dirt around your rosebush and stand back and watch!!It's also great for tomatoes!!(Yes!! It really works!!)
I'll make your bush bloom .. haha im totally joking
Maybe it's sick. Maybe it needs more fertilizer and water. Or maybe it's out of season.
Is it well trimmed? If it still has old blooms hanging around, then it will prevent others from blooming (they need to be cut as they start to bloom). Also, how are they being watered? Only at ground level, I hope. Anything above that doesn't need it. How does the ';trunk'; look?

I hope your roses bloom soon. Good luck!
try some potassium rich fertalizer, potassium triggers flowering.
Use Espoma rose tone and water consistently.
Maybe you need to prune it? That always makes mine bloom, but I don't have climbers either.
too much shade? get a blooming flower fertilizer for it,

My lillies didn't bloom this year. they came up but not bloom any idea why?

Here is an article you need to read - you probably didn't fertilize at the right time.

Check for pests, such as the Japanese Lily Beetle. Another reason may be that your bulbs could use a boost. Try working in some compost or bulb fertilizer around your bulbs.

  • Why anent my amaryllis blooming, thy were supposed to bloom around chrismas?

Have the bulbs sprouted any greenery? How are they planted, did you leave the top of the bulb above the soil line?

How long will my mums bloom? i just bought a bunch for my garden hoping they will take me threw oct...?

Asking a plant to bloom continuously for more then two months is a bit much. Most will give four weeks some a bit more. But if you snip each spent flower they will have some level of repeat bloom later.

If they offer less than you wish go to a nursery and see if they have sale plants that might fill out the display. Most nurseries have a shelf or corner where plants past their prime are sold off. Mums are easy to get that way.How long will my mums bloom? i just bought a bunch for my garden hoping they will take me threw oct...?
Hi, They will last about 4 to 6 weeks. I have noticed that the nurseries throughout the North East are pushing MUMS this year which started as yearly as late July. This is fine if you intend to pot them and annuals. But if you want then to last into the traditional Fall Mum period--- it is unlikely.

Why my hydrangea won't bloom since i moved it years ago?

Beautiful fol agee, my others bloom , but I have tried pruning and not pruning . Feeding and adding acid to the soilWhy my hydrangea won't bloom since i moved it years ago?
I've been gardening all my life. One of the main things I had to learn was not to struggle with a plant that isn't providing me with pleasure.

For about $30 you can buy a new one from a reputable local source, and tell them of the location you plan to plant it so they can recommend a plant that likes that. Also ask questions like ';does it bloom on old wood or new?'; and get an instruction sheet on the type you bought. From then on, you know what you've got and what it needs.

Many local nurseries and garden centers give a one year guarantee, and many have special guarantees for hydrangeas if they plant it themselves in your yard. The planting cost includes fertilizing and remediating the soil.

Just think, how much will it cost me to buy the products I need to remediate my own soil? Or to fertilize differently? Is it more than $30? $50?

But if you want to try it yourself, there are many hydrangea blooming tips here:

http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf28087837.tip鈥?/a>Why my hydrangea won't bloom since i moved it years ago?
wow um its probably because the seeds might be cooked it happened to me before i bought a bag of seeds but it didnt grow at all i waited 4 about 6 to 7 weeks and nothing i tooked the seeds back and they said it was cooked!!! so thats probably the answer or just bad soil!!

Will lillies-of-the-valley bloom more than once a season?

If they are planted outside they will only bloom once, but you can make them bloom again just like any bulb if you bring them inside. you have to get them cold again for several weeks, just like they think its winter. Freeze them in your freezer for several weeks then bring them out again, and it will be just like spring for them. :) You can do this with any bulb that is planted in the fall for spring flowers. Will lillies-of-the-valley bloom more than once a season?
No unfortunately. They bloom only once in the spring. Will lillies-of-the-valley bloom more than once a season?
Sadly no. They are so pretty and have such a wonderful smell. But they only bloom once a year.

Should I cut back my very tall snapdragons? Will they re-bloom?

Please don't just say I need to dead-head them, because I'm not sure what that means EXACTLY. Where on the stalk should I cut them (if at all)? PLEASE HELP! Thanks so much!Should I cut back my very tall snapdragons? Will they re-bloom?
Yes, deadhead them as much as possible, as well as prune them back. They will resprout and reflower for the summer. Deadheading stops them going to seed, and wasting energy on seed production, rather than making new flowers.

Make angular cuts down to a leaf junction, below the first point where buds were- I typically ensure that the stem is fairly strong and thick, as this will allow your plant to branch, and be pruned/managed later on. Slant the cut slighly, away from the leaf junction. Any stem above the cut will eventually die back, so keep the cut reasonably close to the leaf node.

Hope this helps. Good luck! RobShould I cut back my very tall snapdragons? Will they re-bloom?
I cut them as far down as the spent seedpods go. They will send off side shoots that will bloom, and ultimately be healthier and bushier because of the deadheading.

I have to write a mythology story about nature. Like how we get snow or why flowers bloom. Got any ideas?

    i love writing these stories!

i'm very creative... once upon a time, everything was quiet. all plants remained un-bloomed... and one day the sun god came from behind the snow monster named cloud. the sun monster shook cloud,he was tired of being hidden, and small chunks of cloud fell to the sleeping

earth. What is now called snow fell to the ground, it didn't stop for years. this caused the ice age. soon, cloud's ';snow'; ran out, and there was nothing left of him. the sun god shone with all of his might. all plants came to life, And earth awakened. all of the ice and snow melted. when the snow monster's minions heard, they came in for attack, but to this day, sun has defeated them all, their tears fall as rain, and that is why we had the ice age, have snow and rain, and why there are so many clouds, and how plants started growing..... the end,,,

wow, i came up with that on a whim... :) gl with your writing piece, ugh, i hate english!I have to write a mythology story about nature. Like how we get snow or why flowers bloom. Got any ideas?
When the Gods created the world, it was all a huge garden, but man became too happy and selfish that they where starting to ignore the Gods and disrespect them.

So as punishment the Gods brought down the cold and the snow to make the plants and animals die, so men would suffer for their disrespect.

Men pleaded to the gods and asked for forgiveness, and the Gods forgave and took the snows away, but everything was dead, so they turned the snow to water and from it they made it mix with the earth to bring forth new life.

But the Gods decided that man should be reminded of their folly, so every year you have snow come to take everything away, and in the spring it is given back. Thus creating a cycle or death and renewal to remember man on the power of the Gods.

Hope that helps and you can expand it from that.I have to write a mythology story about nature. Like how we get snow or why flowers bloom. Got any ideas?
you got to be creative duh/! When the world was young trees danced animels talked and flowers teased. why did that teast maybe thay where too vain so thats why the sun punished them so thay can only bloom for him or it or the moon or the easter bunney idk be creative
Try the bible and the creation myth.

The older the branches are the more chances you will have flowers to come out.I have a meyer lemon tree that is 6 yrs old and have yet to get it to bloom. help!?
Many fruit trees do not begin to fruit well until the age of about 8 years. A high phosphorus fertilizer (where the middle number on the fertilizer bag is about twice the first number, like 10-20-10) will encourage any plant to bloom more (and therefore to fruit more as well).

Look at modern China, the flowers are simply an analogy for 'intelligent political opponents to speak in freedom to create a better China'. Those that took the bait and openly criticised Mao..well they allegedly disappeared, so the rest is history. It's Mao Zedong by the way.

  • My rose petals are wiltering before they fully bloom and then the petals fall off really easy..why?

Botrytis Blight is caused by the fungus Botrytis cinerea. The disease causes flower buds to droop and remain closed. Buds turn brown and decay. Sometimes partially opened buds are attacked, and an entire flower may be covered by gray fungus.

Symptoms: A smooth, slightly sunken, grayish-black lesion may develop just below the flower head. The bud is destroyed. It frequently hangs over at or near the lesion. The fungus may also infect stub ends of stems from which flowers have been cut.

Disease Cycle: Botrytis is a gray fungus that generally lives on dying tissue. With the right conditions, any dead plant tissue can release thousands of Botrytis spores. Botrytis infection occurs when water remains on leaves or buds.

Control: Cut and destroy all infected blossoms as soon as they droop or die. To prevent large numbers of fungal spores, remove dead plant material on which spores are produced. Fungicide application may be necessary.

Halt; Rose and Ornamental Fungicide is a good spray to control this.My rose petals are wiltering before they fully bloom and then the petals fall off really easy..why?
Did you recut the roses before putting them in water? I've heard that if you cut them while the stems are under water, the flowers 'dig it' - since they suck air if they're cut in open air. I've noticed that if I get roses that have the little bud vases on the bottom, they last longer than the roses that don't. Sweet!

Also, are they on top of something that generates heat? They don't like that.

Edit: I answered thinking these roses were cut instead of grown. Oopsy. My rose petals are wiltering before they fully bloom and then the petals fall off really easy..why?
if its thier first year they could just be weak study up on the type of roses like do they need shade/sun partial or full the amount of water and just keep cliping and pruning and they will get stronger.
Take a soil sample into your closest nursery and have them run a soil analysis. Good Luck.

Algae bloom(diatom)..how do i clean the tank now?

I have had a sudden algae bloom and my water turned a murky green.I did regular water changes ever since then but i have no idea how to get rid of the '; little green dots with greenish hair growing on it';,which has spread all over the glass of my tank.I also have algae all over my ornaments and pebbles and on my plants.

Please advice...Algae bloom(diatom)..how do i clean the tank now?
Diatoms, greenwater and cynobacteria can all be very frustrating to deal with in an aquarium and all require slightly different handling to effect a complete and total cure. But, a real reduction in the amounts you see are easy to accomplish.

First, all of these rely on getting plenty of light, so reduce the light in the tank. If any sunlight hits the tank, you need to either move the tank of find a way to block that light. Also, reduce the time you have the lights on in the tank. Assuming the tank is in a room with windows, the fish really don't need the light, so you can use it only when you are home to enjoy the tank.

Second, all of these things need nutrients from the water. Different nutrients for each type of problem growth, but all from the water. A careful gravel cleaning and a 50% water change will help to reduce the nutrient levels followed by a regular 25% water change each week again while cleaning the gravel well with a gravel siphon will go far in keeping the nutrient level low.

Many algae eating fish will not touch diatoms or cynobacteria and therefore won't help the problem at all. Also, they can't eat the free floating algae that is making the water green.

There are a number of chemical treatments available on the market, please don't fall victim to any of these. In the long run they will generally only make the problem worse.

Your best course of action is the slower, but sure method of starving the algae out of the tank. Starve it of nutrients and starve it of light. It will take a few weeks to get it to an acceptable level, but the results will come and will be far more lasting than other methods.

MMAlgae bloom(diatom)..how do i clean the tank now?
    get placastemuse
depending on what you have in your tank, you could go to the store and purchase a chemical algae remover, but sometimes chemical are harsh so use as a last resort. Look at getting a few small catfish to clean it the natural way, like a Otocinclus Catfish, they stay a lot smaller than a Pleco does. Also you need to figure out what started it .

Your tank water is nutrient rich, which may mean that you're feeding too much, your tank may be overstocked or you're not doing enough water changes or a combination of all the above. Avoid placing your aquarium where it could receive direct sunlight.
    go to
easy. an algae brush from a regular pet store. cleaning out your flter and feeding the fish a little less might help too. test the water with a regular testing kit from a pet store. certain chemicals in the water cause excessive algae growth. your testing kit will have intructions on which products to buy to get rid of these chemicals that can also be harmful for your fish.
well water changes may be the source of your problem. city or well water will have phosphates in it wich is what algae will thrive on. if it is a new tank this is very common you can help the problem with a phosphate sponge in your filter media and cutting the time the lights are on back a few hours. you can also take black garbage bags and place them around the tank so the only light getting in is the light from the top. You can also get some snails and other algae eaters that will eat the algae. The best thing to do is get a RO/DI tap water filter. An RO/DI will remove almost all the nitrates nitrites and phosphates as well as other trace elements from the wtaer befor it enters your tank. RO/DI filters are expensive but well worth it in the long run. hope this helps and feel free to email me with other questions you may have. hope this helps and good luck with the tank
drain most of the water, and wipe it off by hand.

a smaller pleco like a bushynose might take care of the algae. But the best way is take it off by hand.
do a 50% water change. Take the deco out and scub it by hand. And get a algae magnet to clean the glass with.

It's got a very high pollen count and is used by ';some';, farmers to limit access to their land.

    Hi,

My wife never suffered from hay fever until we bought a house next to a pare seed field. She was bad all through the flowering period. After the flowers had died back, she was fine. We moved again after two years, and she has never suffered again.
lots of people react badly to it, even people that don't normally get hay fever or asthma. i once walked thru a field of it and lost my coat as it was tied round my waist, i then spent hours in it trying to find my coat, but i didn't react to it at all, some people do and others don't

Depends if you are growing indoors or outdoors and the equipment useed if indoors.

I usually don't modify the nutrients until the 7 leave palms appear but I do it outdoors and start in July ending in Oct.

Sound like you are growing indoors, I'm not sure if plants that age will produce.
Why are you spending money on different foods for plants? All you need is good compost/soil and occasional additions of some fresh compost and they'll do fine unless they are very specialist exotics. If that's the case you should have got growing instructions beforehand.

I live in zone 9, I'm growing roses(blaze cl., lady banks) what helps with bloom production?

They are both climbers.I live in zone 9, I'm growing roses(blaze cl., lady banks) what helps with bloom production?
all roses must have at least 6 hours of sunshine to bloom well.

Fertilise when required and water well - roses don't like soggy roots so I hope they are in well drained soil

hope they bloom well. I love rosesI live in zone 9, I'm growing roses(blaze cl., lady banks) what helps with bloom production?
    Scott's rose food. Maybe MiracleGro.
If you pinch off any smaller buds, the plant puts all the energy into the few you leave on.

And ALWAYS remove dead flowers, at the stem below the start of the flower.
If you are fertilizing them and they still aren't blooming then you need to switch to a fertilizer that has a high middle number i.e. 10-20-10, the middle number is the one that makes blooms produce.
I am so envious of you! I want a Lady Banks. Which one do you have? Rosa Banksia 'Lutea', R. banksiae 'Lutescens', Rosa banksiae 'Alba Plena', or R. banksiae normalis?

Feeding such a large rose will require a bit more than most, like your more moderate Blaze.

I give Blaze Whitneys Organic Rose Food (4-6-2) three times a year; Valentines, Memmorial, %26amp; Labor Day.

    Round #1 February 1-15 鈥?100% organic fertilizer @ 2 lbs/100 sq. ft. (i.e. Whitney Farms, Garden-Ville, GreenSense, natural meals %26amp; manure compost

    Round #2 June 1-15 鈥?100% organic fertilizer @ 1 lbs/50 sq. ft.

    Round #3 September 15-30 鈥?100% organic fertilizer @ 1 lbs/50 sq. ft., Sul-Po-Mag @ 1 lbs/50 sq. ft.

Then to cover trace minerals and growth hormones I fertilize with a root drench of Kelp Fish on May 1, June 1 and July 1. I use Growmore seaweed extract and Alaska庐 Fish Fertilizer 5-1-1 to make this.

Every other week during June, July, and Aug all my roses get their foliage sprayed with the fish kelp but Lady Banks would only need it while in bloom.

Since you are in zone 9 I'm guessing it is April or May Lady Banks blooms. Since Lady Banks only blooms once she will not need the late summer fertilizing that Blaze will so skip round 3 as well as the July root drenches on her.

The RHS says to only feed her twice; early spring and early summer.

I use Sul-Po-Mag a naturally occurring mineral that has sulfur, potash, and magnesium but I have sandy soil that rain leaches nutrients and minerals from very quickly.

I will say Blaze is a fine rose. Now it is 6 years old and has a much larger reach than predicted. Mine goes over the arbor and into a tree on the other side. The bloom is attractive enough I have had painters come use it in compositions. When I plant a rose I put in 5 cups of fertilizer mixed into soil from the hole I've dug, to get it started strongly. Using organics I wont hurt it and it is able to establish root growth rapidly as the fertilizer works slowly. I got this from a fellow rose society member and I swear by it now.
First, remember that climbers may take a couple of years to really establish, so if they're new, don't push them. Roses are just like children; first, train them the way you want them to go. Second, feed them well; I use 1/2 strength Miracle Gro every 2 weeks in a hose sprayer. Finally, discipline them; roses need to be cut back regularly to keep the blooms coming.

If it's getting enough sun, it's not new, and you're doing the above, you'll have more blooms that you can count. Also, clmbers like to bloom from horizontal canes- so when you train them, don't let the canes just go up and up or you'll only get blooms at the top ends. Happy growing!

What do i do with the irises after they bloom? can i cut them back in the summer?

that is what i plan to do with mine, i am also digging them up and splitting them to replant. My M-I-L said it was ok and she's a real pro! What do i do with the irises after they bloom? can i cut them back in the summer?
Just pop off the old blooms, let them remain all summer and they will go away as the Fall approaches....the place where I live the Irises have been here for 50 years and they do well each year....sometimes the leaves get so thick in them that they don't bloom well...I have to rake and they come back stronger than ever...the gray tuber that sits on the surface must get sunlight...when they do, they give me glorious flowers. You can go to the website www.PAllenSmith.com and ask any further questions. He is a horticulture expert that has a program on my local PBS station and I have joined his newsletter...He also loves Roses and can give great advise on their needs too.

I planted tulips last year--they bloomed beautifully. Will they bloom this coming spring? or do they die?

I live in south central Virginia.I planted tulips last year--they bloomed beautifully. Will they bloom this coming spring? or do they die?
If they have received adequate nourishment while they were blooming and above ground, and have had enough of a dormant period this winter, they should bloom again with no problem. I would definitely think Virginia is far-enough north to accomplish this.

When they bloom again in spring, and the blooms are spent, use some bulb fertilizer as well as bone meal to give them a boost so they can save up lots of food for the next season's blooms. If they stop blooming, you may need to dig up the bulbs and separate them, as bulbs will grow smaller bulbs as a way of spreading.

Good luck!I planted tulips last year--they bloomed beautifully. Will they bloom this coming spring? or do they die?
Most tulips will re appear, but you never know.
With tulips it is always a crap shoot. I have been gardening for some 40 years and have planted tulips of all varieties, and sometimes they come back and bloom for years, and sometimes they are good for one year and gone. I find that the fancy tulips, parrots, ruffled ones, last for about one season and they are gone, while the older varieties last longer. I have some red ones that have been blooming faithfully for over 10 years, and I planted some Angelique once, and they did not come back at all the following year.

I worked at a garden center for years, and I once asked a Dutch tulip grower about this. He told me that is is just best to regard them as annuals, except for the species varieties, and plant them new every year.

He also said that in a warmer climate, like yours, and mine (zone 6b) that you should plant them deeper than the instructions call for as if they are closer to the surface of the soil, and warmer, they divide faster and ';run out'; in a short time. Cover them at least 8-10 in for the large-flowering bulbs.

If they come back for you, I would consider it a bonus.

  • I'd like a list of perenials that bloom a long time that are good for shaddy areas or maybe part sun?

First thing you need to know is that perennials do not devote their lives to blooms like annuals do. They will bloom 3-6 weeks a year, depending upon the type of perennial you have. But knowing this, you can buy a variety of plants with staggered blooming times so that you will have something in flower all year. I do not know where you live but please go to the following website for a list of plants that like part sun to shady areas: http://hgic.clemson.edu Then click on the link for Landscape, Garden and Indoor Plants, then scroll to the bottom of the page and look for handout #1716 on Plants For Shade. If nothing else, it is a list of plants that like shade and you can find the ones that will grow in your area.

    Have fun!

My favorites are Four-O'Clocks! They bloom in shade and are drought tolerant. They make lots of seeds and also grow back every year. Peonies are good. Also Lantana (but they may not grow in your area) Bulbs of all varieties are also nice. Good luck!I'd like a list of perenials that bloom a long time that are good for shaddy areas or maybe part sun?
Heucheras...one of my very favorites .. great for shade or sun...best in part sun.. don't bloom a super long time, but have beautiful sprays of flowers and even when it's not blooming, the foliage comes in many colors and is just as beautiful.

Pulmonaria also has varied and beautiful splotchy foliage...good in shade and blooms a long time in Spring..mine in NY started in April and just finished blooming now.

yeah i like bloom because shes pretty, mature and responsible! Is Bloom your favourite in winx club?
no actually, my fave is Stella. She's really pretty and cool and she's all about fashion! and sometimes she comes off a bit rude, but she really does care for her friends and at the end of the day, that's what really matters. plus i think her Power of Solaria is pretty cool =)

Fairy-wise, it's Stella. Witch-wise, it's Icy. I've just always liked her the best out of all the characters on the show since I first watched Winx Club when i was 8!!! I like Icy because she's beautiful, powerful and she's a good leader of her friends, plus she never gives up. She's been defeated 3 years and still, she hasn't given up! =)
Ahh, I used to watch the winx club when i was younger but i don't anymore but i remembered that my favorite Charrie was Stella because she had a bad childhood but she was still strong and she restored power to her country and became princess again.
ugh, no, I hated her when I used to watch it.

How can you get rid of algea bloom?

I will give you a simple solution, get a algea eater or pleco.

    Other solutions:

Algae uses photosynthesis to grow in an aquarium. Luckily, there are ways to control this unruly protist.

STEP 1: Understand that there are several types of algae that will grow in an aquarium. Get ready to fight.

STEP 2: Do away with slime algae by lowering nutrient levels. Change the water and siphon out the slime.

STEP 3: Lower the light levels. What makes plants grow will make algae grow.

STEP 4: Keep direct sunlight off of the aquarium.

STEP 5: Use grazing snails to eat many - but not all - kinds of algae.

STEP 6: Use a gentle scrubbing pad for acrylic aquariums ' a Buf-Puf works great.

STEP 7: Use a razor blade to scrape glass tanks, which are not as likely to scratch.

STEP 8: As I already adviced you, get algae-eating fish, which are your best and most natural line of defense against the stuff. These should be the first fish in your tank.

    Tips %26amp; Warnings

Algae spores are everywhere, including inside your new aquarium. Given the right conditions ' plenty of light and nutrients - the spores will grow and you'll have an algae problem.

To avoid introducing new algae to your tank, soak new plants in a solution of 1 part bleach to 20 parts water. Dip the plant for about 2 minutes and rinse it immediately in cool running water. Next, dip it in water treated with a dechlorinator to neutralize any remaining bleach before adding it to the tank.

If you have live plants in your tank, algae will be even harder to control because conditions that are good for growing plants are also good for growing algae. How can you get rid of algea bloom?
Step one: Black out the tank - leave the lights off completely for a few days since any light encourages algae growth.

Step two: Do water changes every day during the black-out. Between steps one and two you will see a noticeable improvement.

    Prevention:

Step three: The tank should not get any sunlight throughout the day. If it does, it should be moved.

Step four: Remove any problem that might lead to excess nutrients in the water. Make sure you are not overfeeding, that the gravel is vacuumed regularly, and that the tank is not overstocked.

Step five: Once the problem is clear, aside from the above solutions, don't use the aquarium light more then you have to. If you don't have live plants in the tank then you can easily turn on the aquarium lights only when you are present to view the tank. The ambient lighting of a room from indirect window light and/or room lighting is plenty for the fish to see by. This is an often overlooked solution to algae that has worked well for me for years in all but my planted tank.

Step six: If you do use live plants then consider planting more thickly to encourage the plants to use more of the excess nutrients, and if you use fertilizer in the tank, cut it down or out altogether.

Pleco's are not a valid solution to algae - they don't eat that much of it, they poop so much that the extra waste can often make matters worse, and if the algae is suspended algae (green water) then they simply can't eat it. Pleco's are livestock - fish that should be kept because the owner likes them, not as an aquarium tool. How can you get rid of algea bloom?
Algae are mostly-photosynthetic organisms that sometimes resemble plants but are not plants, having no true roots, stems or leaves. Algae grow in freshwater and saltwater. Saltwater algae are sometimes referred to as ';seaweed.'; Like plants, algae require light and nutrients to grow. We supply plenty of both in our aquariums, with several hours of aquarium lighting a day and nutrients like nitrates and phosphates from fish waste.

Algae come in many forms. There are microscopic, one-celled algae, filamentous algae that resemble hair, algae that grow in sheets, and macroalgae that look like plants. There are even algae that live inside the outer integument (';skin';) or calcium shell of some corals, anemones, and other sessile invertebrates called zooxanthellae. There are slimy-looking algae that are often not algae at all, but a colony of primitive photosynthetic organisms known as cyanobacteria. There are also very hard-to-remove little dots of green that sometimes grow on aquarium panels which also are not algae, but diatom or radiolarian colonies (microscopic, one-celled, animals with hard shells) with algae incorporated in their matrix. With all that said, let us answer some common questions right up front:

Algae growth is inevitable in an aquarium.

Algae consume nutrients in the aquarium that if allowed to accumulate, are harmful to fish. Algae can be a good thing.

The presence of green algae in an aquarium indicates a healthy environment for fish.

There is absolutely no way to completely prevent algae from growing in an aquarium, without killing the other life in the tank.

Chemicals should never be used to control the growth of true algae in an aquarium, and should only be used in rare circumstances to control cyanobacteria.

Correcting a severe algae problem requires time and patience.

Natural methods of controlling algae are the best and most effective.

Algae removal from the tank panels can be done on an as-needed basis, but no more than once a week. Removing algae involves either correcting negative water conditions to control or slow excessive algae growth, or an age-old process known as ';elbow grease'; (scrubbing it off!). Algae removal in an aquarium should be done only when necessary. We have seen many aquariums where daily removal of algae resulted in fish that were so stressed, most had diseases and were dying. You should never remove all of the algae from your tank. Allowing some algae to grow in the aquarium can be beneficial to the aquatic environment. When algae is removed from aquarium side panels, care should be taken to select an algae scrubber that will not hurt the finish of an aquarium. Be careful not to get gravel caught in an algae scrubbing pad where it can scratch the aquarium. Never use household cleaning pads to remove algae. They contain fungicides that kill fish.

First, test the water you are filling up your tank with. Many public water supplies (our homes) have a concentration of nitrates at around 7ppm or higher. (Bottled water is no better).

This could be the start of your problem.

Be sure your tank is not within direct or indirect lighting such as a window or in a room where the lights are on constantly. Is you tank near a heat source. Sometimes we do not take into consideration a fishtank is near a heat register which can and does add additional temperature changes to your tank.

Did you clean the filter as well? Be sure the entire filter is cleaned and free of algae.

Use a razor or scraper and gently scrape all sides of your tank. Clean your gravel and return it to the tank as well. DO NOT wash the gravel in the tank. The residues of the algae will remain.

If you have a stick on thermometer, get yourself a floating one. The stick on thermometers pick up ambient air temperatures from OUTSIDE the tank and can be up to 10 degrees off. DON';T trust them. Try keeping your tank at 72 for a couple of days.

You can also purchase phosphorus pads for around $2.00 at your local pet store. These can be cut to fit with your filter and remove large amounts of phosphorus. These can be reused over and over just remember to rinse them out well when you clean your tank.

Test your water. Since you have not gone thru the cycle process allow your tank to run. This should really help with the algae. If you find your water quality is all your tank isn't near a heat or light source, ok but still getting algae turn the temperature down or off and let it run. You will want to scrape the sides of the tank and do a water change no more than 20% every other day. This should only be done if the algae returns in a heavy form.

If you need any more help, you can im or email me.
Large water changes that include gravel cleaning to remove the nutrients in the tank and reduce the lighting significantly. Reduce the duration of the lighting by only having the light on when you are home to enjoy the tank and even then keep it to a minimum.

    MM
Just try cleaning the fish tank and sucking out all of the algae!

    ~Hoped this helped!

    1. do you leave your light on all day and night?

    2. is your tank in direct sunlight?

Those are the two leading causes in algae growth in a tank. Try getting a timer for you light and set it to a natural cycle like 6:30AM on and 6:30PM off. And make sure your tank is not in front of any windows or in any direct sunlight. If algae growth persists, you may want to invest in an algae eater, if you have a pond or a 300 plus gal. tank then a pleco. would be fine but since we all don't have huge tanks then a Chinese algae eater should work out for you. They only grow to about 3 inches or so and gold algae eaters are beautiful. But make sure to stay within your limits of one inch of fish per gallon of water.

Do sago palms die after they bloom?

Our sago has a large cone bloom on top and my dad heard that after it blooms it will die so he was thinking of cutting the cone off to keep it alive. Is this true? or anyone know more about the blooming process?Do sago palms die after they bloom?
I have had a sago palm for the last 20 years or so, and it has bloomed every year just like clockwork each spring. Usually, it would bloom a few times (a few stalks would come out and have successive blooms over about a month) and then just continue growing the single stalk. A few years ago, it bloomed and then split into two stalks, where it currently is now.

I would say just leave it alone and let it do its thing. But, blooming isn't going to cause it to die. However, you may lose all the leaves during the blooming period. But, they'll be back in no time.Do sago palms die after they bloom?
It won't die, around here the Sago Palms bloom every summer. Even if they did die after flowering, cutting the cone off wouldn't help, because the palm already started flowering.
It will not die. Sago palms have long lifespans and can be worth a pretty penny if well maintained.

    Puya raimondii

鈥?The slowest flowering plant in the world is the Puya raimondii, from the Andes mountains. This plant takes 150 years to make one flower. After that the plant dies.

These exotic flowering tropicals were named not for Pitcairn Island or its discoverer, but for an 18th century London doctor, William Pitcairn. Though they are Bromeliads, most grow on the ground, a few creeping on underground runners. The 260 species include deciduous and evergreen types. Long narrow leaves usually bunch or spiral from the base, some with toothed or spiny edges. Clusters of tubular flowers, or single, shaggy tassel shapes come in white, yellows and reds. Good planted around the base of palms or other feathery tropical trees. Smaller species do well in pots or hanging baskets. They need temperatures above 50掳 to 55掳 F, with light shade or sun. Plant in coarse, well-drained soil. Water moderately in summer, less in winter, letting soil nearly dry between soakings. Feed well-established potted plants with diluted liquid fertilizer from spring to fall. Repot at start of growing season. Divide in spring or grow from seed.

When do the jappenese sakura plants bloom in japan?

There is something called the ';sakura-zensen'; which means the sakura front line. This is a wave of blossoming that starts in mid March to April, going from the southern parts of Japan towards the northern parts. So naturally, sakura trees in southern parts of Japan would bloom a little earlier than northern parts.

Hope this helped. When do the jappenese sakura plants bloom in japan?
Early in February, depends on location. Mostly MarchWhen do the jappenese sakura plants bloom in japan?
both answers above are correct but keep in mind the season can vary depending on the weather - sometimes earlier, sometimes later. Around March the sakura reports will start.

    http://www.sakurazensen.com/sakurazensen…

Cherry Blossoms can begin blooming in Okinawa in February and sometimes as early as January. In Tokyo, it's often around the last week of March. Kyoto is a few days later.

Up in Aomori, peak time is Golden Week - the first week of May. And Hakodate in Hokkaido, is mid-May.

wow! two thumbs for moi and the other two above and we all gave the correct information. I wish a moderator at Yahoo Answers would finally nab these childish abusers of the thumbs down system. If the info supplied by myself and the two above is wrong, have the courage to point out our mistakes in order that a truly ';best'; answer can be chosen.
They're actually trees. Sakura refers to cherry trees, although most of these don't have edible cherries on them.

They bloom in the Spring and generally start blooming first in the southern parts of Japan, gradually making their way up to the northern parts. So much so that on the news they report the movement of the ';sakura front';.

Usually it happens in April in the big cities in Japan, but it varies. The blossoms only last about 2 weeks, so if you go to Japan and you really don't want to miss them, you might have to hop on a train north if you just missed them, or south if they're not blooming yet.

    Have fun.
Mostly March/April, but it depends on other circumstances so it differs every year. When it gets close to the blossom season, Japanese weather channels have some section for cherry blossom, kinda like hurricane channel.

Are the calla-lillies in bloom again?

Depends where you are I'm in Australia and mine have just finished flowering. They go dormant in winter in cold climates and re-shoot again in spring and flower in winter.

I live in a warm temperate climate and I grow them outside in the semi shade. Are the calla-lillies in bloom again?
Not much in bloom in my town here... today I woke up to -18 celsius... grrrr... winter...

Hello from Toronto, CanadaAre the calla-lillies in bloom again?
Calla lilies are available at this time because these are bred in hot houses or nurseries to supply the floral industry. However, if we depend on nature, the callas naturally bloom starting late winter or early spring.

Do you think it's ok for Local Authorities to indiscriminately strim down verges which are in full bloom?

Does your Local Authority come along and whack beautiful areas of grassland and road-side verges down to nothing but a green carpet? How do you feel about the impact on nature/wildlife of such irresponsible actions?Do you think it's ok for Local Authorities to indiscriminately strim down verges which are in full bloom?
I know the area that you are on about and I think that there was absolutely no need for that section to be mown down. After all it is a rarely used road, and presented absolutely no danger to the public or drivers. I drove along the south bound carriageway of M74 tonight south of Lesmahagow and noted that a 1 metre strip of verge had been mown on both North and South bound carriageways. This strip represented no threat to drivers but given that both sides were at least 7KM long that represents 14000 sq mtrs of lost habitat. I do agree however that there is a need to maintain some verges and the like in the interest of safety but a closer look at the maintenance should be taken rather than cut a swathe for miles when it is not neededDo you think it's ok for Local Authorities to indiscriminately strim down verges which are in full bloom?
How do you feel about being able to see at a junction? Or would you prefer it that there were more car accidents?
i don't find it irresponsible at all, the fact that you have a local authority doing this suggests that you live in a nice area, i have seen road signs blocked over by over grown trees etc and crashes happen, i was almost in one myself where the sign to indicate a severe turn was compleatly blocked with the result that i had to do an emergency stop to prevent myself and my passengers from ending up on the verge, in the country side if the field is not going to cause any problems or obstructions then yes by all means let the grass grow but not the hedge, that is just plain unsightly and you cant say it is natures way as it is man who plants he hedges in that manner so it is he who has to maintain those hedges which i personally feel are much nicer when they have been cut and shaped
Grass cutting is done for safety reasons and in urban areas for ammenity reasons. In Norfolk we have areas identified as road side nature reserves where grass cutting is controlled to promote the growth of rare wild flowers and plants, however even other rural roads are not unless necessary and some wildlife likes the areas of shorter grass with the longer grass adjacent to escape into. As you have said though if the council left it someone would complain so they cant win.
I'd argue they don't manage the verges and grassland indiscriminately. It is a mananaged process. Some local authorities have areas where they don't cut the grass - these areas are always a fire hazard. Nevertheless, they still try to maintain the habitat for the wildlife etc. I'm very pleased to see the verges being maintained. My local authority has planted vast swathes of daffodils in some verges that look glorious in the spring. They always cut the grass around them until they have finished flowering.

Most lilies have a second bloom in August, but you have to plant them in the ground. If you leave them in the pots and leave them outside all year I do not think they will come back. You have to plant them in the ground.

I want to know why my climbing rose bush will not bloom?

It is very important to prune roses to promote new blooms. Every year in early spring each stem should be cut back to the first 5 leaf grouping. You will notice that closer to the end the leaves are in clusters of 3, go past this point and prune just above the 5 leaf cluster. This will stimulate the rose bush to grow up (new roses) rather than grow down (new roots). Repeat this process periodically throughout the growing season after the new blooms fall off and you will continue to get new flowers. It is also very important to feed your roses every spring and fall. There is specialty rose fertilizer at your local walmart or home depot. Roses are a lot of work but are really beautiful.I want to know why my climbing rose bush will not bloom?
It may have been winter killed and another reason is the main roots could be dry. Dig around the bush as far as the roots are and feel the condition of the roots. If they are fragile and break when handled, it is time to replace the bush.I want to know why my climbing rose bush will not bloom?
Did you allow the root ball to be buried under the ground? If you did, your climbing rose bush was probably grafted onto something else, perhaps a wild rose and has reverted back to the original root stock. That could be your problem. If it is, you, will have to dig it up and replant. Make sure the rootball is above the ground. That's extremely important.

Check at the bottom of the plant and see if you can see the root ball...if you can't, soil and/or mulch has covered it. This is one of the things you have to really watch with roses.

To which educator is Bloom's Taxonomy most useful?

Is Bloom's Taxonomy mostly for teachers that teach grade-school, or was it developed to be used in all aspects of education, even through post-secondary and graduate school? Also, as I student, how would it benefit me to review and apply Blooms taxonomy even though I am not the teacher, in my own learning processes? For instance, applying the outlined premises of higher level thinking questions in my own reading and writing, in the sciences as well?To which educator is Bloom's Taxonomy most useful?
I think it's an invaluable framework. The main thing that I use it for is to plan how to stretch children's learning further using the same subject matter. It's a way of helping to realise that we sometime ask awful questions and presents a constant challenge to us to ask better questions all the time.

Michigan, Is it too late to plant flowers that'll bloom in fall?

I just moved to a new place and wanted to plant some flowers right now... It is August.... anyone know??Michigan, Is it too late to plant flowers that'll bloom in fall?
it's a bit late for starting anything from seeds...

But your garden centers and nurseries should be have plenty of fall-blooming flowers on hand. Mums, and aster bloom specificly in the fall, and the other flowers which start blooming in the summer but continue blooming until frost, like knock out roses, black eyed susans, and whatnot. Go see what's available.Michigan, Is it too late to plant flowers that'll bloom in fall?
Not from seed, but there should be a variety of mums, asters and other flowing plants available at the local garden center. They come in a wide variety of colors and shapes and are quite hardy - they will withstand a mild frost and will flower until the first killing frost. They are annuals, however. In September you might want to plant bulbs that will flower in the Spring, like tulips, daffodils etc. There's nothing better after a cold, dark, long Winter than to see the spring flowers start to sprout.
I dont think now is the time for ';fall'; planting. Now you plant for ';spring flowers. You can tho purchace ';garden mums'; and plant them, as they will stay flowered for awhile, and if your lucky will come back and bloom again and again in the fall season.
Pansies and asters are fall flowers and will bloom until they freeze.
You could try, but I wouldn't spend a lot on them. Try putting them on the south side of the house, where they'll get the max. sun.

What flower can i plant in small quantities which will bloom within 3 or 4 weeks... from seeds if possible...?

I need to plant some flower and photograph it as it grows.. i only have 3 or 4 weeks to complete this project.. and i want to get the full life of it from planting to bloom... can anyone reccomend a flower i can do this with..

i would prefer it to be seeds.. but i can do cuttings... ;)

cheers. XOXOWhat flower can i plant in small quantities which will bloom within 3 or 4 weeks... from seeds if possible...?
Nothing you plant from seed will grow and flower within 3-4 weeks. Rooted cuttings can take even longer than 4 weeks just to root, much less start growing greenery and preparing to flower.

Plants grown from seed often take a minimum of 10-12 weeks to produce a flower. In an annual plant's life cycle, flowering is towards the end of the plant's life. This is part of the reproductive end of a plant - they flower, get pollinated, set seeds, and die - all in one short growing season. Perennials grown from seed often take much longer to establish and flower - sometimes 2-3 years.

If you have a photography project due, you might consider looking outside at your landscaping for spring bulbs this time of year. I'm in zone 5 for growing, and our snowdrops, hyacinths and crocus are just starting to poke their heads out of the remaining snow.

If you have any wild violets growing around your yard, these too are also preparing to grow and are some of the earliest flowers to appear. You might be able to find other wild perennials that will perform for you as well.

Perhaps you can find a bulb that is popping up and use one of these plants for your project instead. Snowdrops, crocus and early spring bulbs should be flowering in this zone within the next month or so, so this could probably fulfill your project requirements.

Hope this helps and good luck! What flower can i plant in small quantities which will bloom within 3 or 4 weeks... from seeds if possible...?
No matter what you choose you will need cuttings. Nothing you start from seed will bloom in just 3 or 4 weeks.
No such plant. I suggest you purchase similar plants ar different stages of growth.

Why does every stem on my rosebush have 5 leaves and will not bloom?

What are you doing to aid it's growth? Rose food comes in different types, liquid or dry. You should be using that every couple of months during the blossoming season. Have you pruned them back in the fall? Roses need to be cut back, perhaps not to the ground as I have seen others do, but far enough to get the end of the cut branch to split and grow vigorously again. I also put wood chips around the roots to keep them from drying out in the dry summers, and give them a spray with the triple effect of killing mold, fungus and aphids. I have eleven bushes, various types and colors. You may want to contact the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon for advice; they have research teams there and they develop new hybrids all the time. My roses have never equaled theirs in beauty or fragrance. Why does every stem on my rosebush have 5 leaves and will not bloom?
My father raises rose bushes and he said this fall trim it all the way down to right above the ground and then in the spring it sould come back with tons of leaves and rosesWhy does every stem on my rosebush have 5 leaves and will not bloom?
Hi. I'm from zone 7, MS. My rose bushes are not blooming either. They did great in the spring, but ever since it heated up...nothing. I agree with the rose famine thing!
You need to prune each branch back to the first growing bud by cutting diagonally about 1/2 inch above the bud.

Do that at the end of your growing season.

Cutting off dead heads helps promote more blooms.

Cut out any dead wood to improve the look and reduce infection.

If a 'sucker' appears right at the base of the plant, pull it off, all the plants energy will go to that and not the flowers.

Good regular feeding helps too, roses are hungry things, a happy rose is a healthy rose, and can fight off infections like black spot, rust spots etc.
My girlfriend and I were discussing our roses just yesterday and she stated that rosebushes can sometimes ';go wild'; and become little more than thornbushes. I would imagine the cutting back mentioned previously would be considered a method of ';re-domesticating'; them.
I don't know, but my two aren't blooming either and neither is my neighbor's,and hers is normally a very profuse bloomer. I guess there is a rose famine going around! Who knows? I know one thing ,it sure is hot enough and sunny enough.

What is taxonomy according to benjamin bloom?

Blooms taxonomy is simple, it is a way of rating your levels of thinking. Knowledge is the most simple; it is when you memorize facts, such as addresses and phone numbers.

Next is comprehension; the understanding of materials. Reading a book and finding a moral falls under this.

After that is application, using previous knowledge in new ways. For example, if you know how to tie a knot, you can learn to use that know to attach a line to a fishing pole.

Then, there is analysis, the breaking down of something in order to understand it. For example, turning something such as an atom and classifing it into its parts such as nucleus.

The second to last is synthesis, making something completly new. Henry Ford did this by making a cheap car.

Evaluation is judging materials, such as finding a winner or giving a grade. What is taxonomy according to benjamin bloom?
    Bloom's theories

Bloom exercised considerable influence in academic educational psychology. His main contributions to the area of education involved mastery-learning, his model of talent-development, and his Taxonomy of Educational Objectives in the cognitive domain.

He focused much of his research on the study of educational objectives and, ultimately, proposed that any given task favours one of three psychological domains: cognitive, affective, or psychomotor. The cognitive domain deals with a person's ability to process and utilize (as a measure) information in a meaningful way. The affective domain relates to the attitudes and feelings that result from the learning process. Lastly, the psychomotor domain involves manipulative or physical skills.

Benjamin Bloom headed a group of cognitive psychologists at the University of Chicago who developed a taxonomic hierarchy of cognitive-driven behavior deemed important to learning and to measurable capability. (For example, one can measure an objective that begins with the verb ';describe'; , unlike one that begins with the verb ';understand';.)

Bloom's classification of educational objectives, Taxonomy of Educational Objectives, Handbook 1: Cognitive Domain (Bloom et al., 1956), addresses the cognitive domain (as opposed to the psychomotor and affective domains) of knowledge. Bloom鈥檚 taxonomy provides a structure in which to categorize instructional objectives and instructional assessment. He designed the taxonomy in order to help teachers and instructional designers to classify instructional objectives and goals. The taxonomy relies on the idea that not all learning objectives and outcomes have equal merit. For example, memorization of facts, while important, does not equate to the learned ability to analyze or to evaluate. In the absence of a classification-system (a taxonomy), teachers and instructional designers may choose, for example, to emphasize memorization of facts (which makes for easier testing) rather than emphasizing other (and likely more important) learned capabilities.

The Bloom's Wheel, according to Bloom's verbs and matching assessment types, and including only feasible and measurable verbs.Bloom鈥檚 taxonomy in theory helps teachers better prepare objectives and, from there, derive appropriate measures of learned capability and Higher order thinking skills. Curriculum-design, usually a State (governmental) practice, did not reflect the intent of such a taxonomy until the late 1990s. Note that Bloom, as an American academic, lacks universal approval of his constructs.

The curriculum of the Canadian Province of Ontario offers a good example of the application of a taxonomy of educational objectives: it provides for its teachers an integrated adaptation of Bloom's taxonomy. Ontario's Ministry of Education specifies as its taxonomic categories: Knowledge and Understanding; Thinking; Communication; Application. Teachers can classify every 'specific' learning objective, in any given course, according to the Ministry's taxonomy.

    Decade of dedication

In 1985 Bloom conducted a study suggesting that one requires at least 10 years of hard work (a ';decade of dedication';), regardless of genius or natural prodigy status, in order to achieve recognition in any respected field. What is taxonomy according to benjamin bloom?
I've never heard of benjamin bloom but taxonomy (according to oikos) is the science of naming and classifying organisms and the study of their evolution.

When an iris first comes up in the spring, if you transfer it, will it still bloom?

50/50 chance, the plant will be ';shocked'; from being uprooted. The best time to move bulb plants is when they are dormant. January or February are usually good, but it depends on the severity of the winter. Hope this helps. When an iris first comes up in the spring, if you transfer it, will it still bloom?
You won't kill the iris plant, but you will probably hurt the blooms. Irises are best divided and transplanted in the early fall. (And even that will affect the blooms for next year, but those you get in the following years will make up for it.)When an iris first comes up in the spring, if you transfer it, will it still bloom?
I'm certainly no IRIS expert, but here is what happened when we moved into our house early last Spring.......

There were established flower beds in places that there needed to be none and in most of those beds were IRIS plants - just coming up. I wanted to keep them, but not where they were.

I went out when the soil was a little moist, NOT MUDDY and dug up several plants with lots and lots of dirt with them. I transplanted them into the newly established beds I had made earlier and was lucky enough for them to survive.

I will admit that blooms that first year were scarce, but the plants themselves looked great.

When I spoke to our local nursery, he said my saving point was the fact that I took lots and lots of the 'familar' dirt with the plants.

    Good luck.
In all probability NO. They need to be planted in the fall in order to be rooted well enough in the spring to bloom.
If you water it well the day before transplanting, this will help to prevent shock....Dig it out and plant it right away...Actually and hopefully your iris will not suffer...
You can move irises any time you want. They are almost invincible. We had some growing through 3' of concrete that had been poured on top of them
Sometimes they do if you take a big enough chunk of soil with them but seldom will they if you totally desturb their roots...Lets

After blooming, when should the bloom stalk of a daylily be cut or pulled from the plant?

You'll enable your reblooming daylilies to bloom more if you cut the stalk (also called the scape) as soon as the flowers on it have finished blooming.

';You can stimulate reblooming daylilies like ';Stella de oro'; to send up more blooms by cutting off her “spent” stalks. ';You should cut the spent stalks off as low as you can get your pruners. Be sure to make a clean cut.

    It is also mandatory to cut them off immediately while they are still green. This “tells” the plant that is has lost something viable and it must replace it by sending up more…more flowers!';

    http://lifeandlawns.com/2007/07/10/you-c…

    http://www.bloomindesigns.com/category/d…

In the past, I waited until the stalks dried %26amp; then pulled them off...

but that was before I got Stella de oro %26amp; my other rebloomers. Now that I know that I can remove the daylilies’ flowering stalk (scape) as soon as all the flowers are finished blooming...and I will be helping them rebloom... I cut off the scape close to ground level as soon as the flowers are gone.

P.S. If I want to hybridize the daylily by propagating it by seed, then I'd leave the stalk on until I've finished harvesting the seedpods (when the seed pods turn brown, and begins to split at the far end).

You can cut them right after blooming if you like. This will allow the plant to put its energy into the roots instead of trying to make seed heads. You can also wait until they turn brown, which can be unsightly but doesn't hurt the plant. Once brown, they pull out very easily.
let it dry and turn brown. unsightly i know, but that is the way it is. the stalk is ready to be pulled when it easily is pulled out. if it doesn't pull easily, it is not dry enough.
when you can pull it out loosly on it's own.just pull on the stalk and it will come right out.that's the way i do it every yr.
Pull gently. If it is time, the stalk will come out easily.
I just let nature take it's course. The stem will form a ';seed';, then dry up and fall off.

For those who read ';Eight Cousins'; and ';Rose in Bloom';?

Were they written for a younger or older audience? I was on the Barnes and Noble website hoping to order both of them, when I saw they were listed for ages most appropraite for readers 9-12. I don't want to order a book that isn't going to challenge me, and I really don't want to read something that easy (if they truly are so juvenile).

Thanks for the help! For those who read ';Eight Cousins'; and ';Rose in Bloom';?
They are written for a younger audience, though, as an adult, I still enjoy them. Louisa May Alcott's works are usually more complicated than your general run of children's/young adult books, but still they are written so that someone who is 11 or 12 could understand them. (I must admit that I still love ALL of Louisa May Alcott's books - in particular Little Women then Little Men and Jo's Boys.) BTW: I wouldn't call any of Louisa May Alcott's books JUVENILE; they do not lack maturity. In fact most of them deal with some more mature subjects. Rose in Bloom, for instance, is the sequel to Eight Cousins and deals with the grown up version of the children as well as love and romance. You can actually read Eight Cousins online at http://www.online-literature.com/alcott/鈥?/a> and Rose in Bloom at http://www.online-literature.com/alcott/鈥?/a> - I like reading a hard copy myself, but you may not mind online reading. At the very least, you can preview them to see if you'd want to own a copy of each.

If you want something more challenging, may I recommend Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte or Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier?

If you like a story that follows someone from girlhood to womanhood, you may enjoy Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. This book (and actually it's part of a series, but Anne of Green Gables can stand alone), though also considered a ';younger audience'; book, is a bit more complex than Eight Cousins.

I've never had a Camilla do they bloom all winter long. Do they grow well in a container on the patio.?

There is a lot of information available on the internet. A Yahoo search for ';camellia care'; (include the quotation marks in the Yahoo search box) yields 463 results. If you do the same search, and are willing to spend a little time exploring, I'm sure that you will quickly find lots of useful and interesting information.

Good luck with your search.I've never had a Camilla do they bloom all winter long. Do they grow well in a container on the patio.?
They are a semi-tropical plant so the patio must not get below 50-55 degrees. It must be bright but not in direct sun. If your patio has these conditions they you probably can grow it. Cut your fertilizations in half during the winter.I've never had a Camilla do they bloom all winter long. Do they grow well in a container on the patio.?
Camellias, from the tea family, are hardy to at least Zone 7 (some are good to Zone 5), and they do bloom most of the winter here in north Georgia. If you meant the kind of Rhododendron ';Cammilla's Blush';, which is a deciduous azalea, that's good from Zones 5 to 7, and blooms in April.

Camellias generally do OK in containers, but don't let them get too much sun, and don't let them get too dry. They are beautiful!

How come Jesus doesn't let tulips bloom in the winter?

I think they would look pretty. How come Jesus doesn't let tulips bloom in the winter?
You are an idiot. Of course Jesus can do what he wants. He also knows that you think they would look pretty. Therefore, he does not want you to be happy by letting them bloom in winter. Therefore, Jesus hates you. Go to your room and throw out all of your ';Jesus loves me'; T-shirts since the whole word now knows it's not true. And we wouldn't want to make Jesus mad now would we. Get a life. How come Jesus doesn't let tulips bloom in the winter?
He doesnt want them feeling cold as they are so slim and fragile and pretty..
They're his least favorite flower. They give him tu much lip.
in the winter they're in heaven. he likes them too you know.
There is a alternative called green houses that allow gardeners to manipulate a plants growing habits. Otherwise Jesus has nothing to do with ';plants growing seasons'; as God created the 4 seasons for a reason.... to allow them to rest and regenerate.
    because he's dead
Guess what? Jesus doesn't exist so he doesn't influence when the tulips will grow.
Because then we wouldn't have anything to celebrate in the Spring!!!
cause maybe Jesus thinks they should be dormant during the winter
Jesus was a carpenter not a darn gardener lol
    he forgot

The lyrics to spinning world by bloom?
Take me to your antichrist take me to the Promised Land

I know that you want to fight and crush me with your hands

You see what you want to see mocking everything in sight

But I'm just what you can be and I'll step into your house

It's been awhile I know that but you are still my enemy

And I know this is the time for preaching

    Ruler of the spinning world

What now this is the end the time is out to confess

Come here 'cause I'm going to send and clean up this mess

I could be right about something that you are far away from me and it's

still the same old song I'm singing

I'm out on the open road got to take it slow

You are my enemy waiting for the ultimate blow

Gotta reach for the spinning light 'cause it's gotta hold on me

You're blindfolded by your hate and it's doing that you just can't see

But I love you anyway I don't care what you say

    And I'm begging you please

Do it right and set my mind at ease

What now, you've coming back you've returned, back for more

Do what you wanted to and leave me with a doubt

In my eyes I see this world of hate

Take me to your antichrist take me to the Promised Land

It's been awhile I know that but you are still my enemy

And I know this is the time for preaching

But I love you anyway I don't care what you say

And I'm begging you please, please come back to stay

It's like a world without the eyes a world so full of lies

And it's driving me insane so do it right and set my mind at ease

Dahlias???Its going to frost tonight and my Dahlias are in full bloom!!?

This is my 1st yr. for Dahlias and they are loeaded with gorgeous blooms. It is going to frost tonight and they will all die. Did I do something wrong in the timing of putting in my bulbs or will it be this way every year? I hate to lose them this way.Dahlias???Its going to frost tonight and my Dahlias are in full bloom!!?
Firstly, cover those dahlia's. They're frost sensitive, but will survive the cold snap, as long as the frost stays off of the leaves. Put in a couple of stakes, and drape a cloth cover over them. An old bed sheet is great. They sell frost cloth which is very light, that's very good. Take it off during the day. The stakes will keep the fabric from crushing/ breaking the plant. If it's going to get wet (rained on ), the stakes are very important.

Planting time is critical, or you'll have this problem again and again. I live in USDA hardiness zone 5. Our last day of frost is concidered to be May 15th. If I plant my Dahlias after May 15th, I get flowers just in time to be killed by the frost. (Giant Dahlia's, smaller ones bloom earlier). Start your tubers indoors. Plant them in 6-8'; growers pots. Pot them up in late March (target date of May 15th), keep them in the basement, water them as needed, be sure not to over water. Once they sprout, move them to a window. It'll be mid April now. Treat them like a houseplant until May. Fertilize them and water them. Once it gets nice outside, let them spend the day in the outside air, in at night. This hardens them off, so they can survive in the garden. Once the danger of frost passes, plant them in to the garden where you want. You've now got a plant 8-10'; inches tall (at least) on the day you would normally be putting the tubers into the ground! That means flowers 2-3 weeks earlier than this year.

    Give it a try!

    Good luck-

Oooops - the spell check is on the fritz... sorry about spelling errorsDahlias???Its going to frost tonight and my Dahlias are in full bloom!!?
try to plant them earler next year, dalihas have to have a good growing season to flurish , this some times takes bloom time late in the season so covering them to protect from frost is what you will have to do to enjoy them , this is why dalihas are not grown by a lot of people and winter storage of the tubers is a nother problem , dig them after bloom dry them then put into saw dust or spagnmun moss to keep cool and keep them in a cool spot out of the light ,
Throw a sheet over them...or a plastic light weight tarp...you can do that every nite till almost Thanksgiving.
