When do the jappenese sakura plants bloom in japan?

There is something called the ';sakura-zensen'; which means the sakura front line. This is a wave of blossoming that starts in mid March to April, going from the southern parts of Japan towards the northern parts. So naturally, sakura trees in southern parts of Japan would bloom a little earlier than northern parts.

Hope this helped. When do the jappenese sakura plants bloom in japan?
Early in February, depends on location. Mostly MarchWhen do the jappenese sakura plants bloom in japan?
both answers above are correct but keep in mind the season can vary depending on the weather - sometimes earlier, sometimes later. Around March the sakura reports will start.

Cherry Blossoms can begin blooming in Okinawa in February and sometimes as early as January. In Tokyo, it's often around the last week of March. Kyoto is a few days later.

Up in Aomori, peak time is Golden Week - the first week of May. And Hakodate in Hokkaido, is mid-May.

wow! two thumbs for moi and the other two above and we all gave the correct information. I wish a moderator at Yahoo Answers would finally nab these childish abusers of the thumbs down system. If the info supplied by myself and the two above is wrong, have the courage to point out our mistakes in order that a truly ';best'; answer can be chosen.
They're actually trees. Sakura refers to cherry trees, although most of these don't have edible cherries on them.

They bloom in the Spring and generally start blooming first in the southern parts of Japan, gradually making their way up to the northern parts. So much so that on the news they report the movement of the ';sakura front';.

Usually it happens in April in the big cities in Japan, but it varies. The blossoms only last about 2 weeks, so if you go to Japan and you really don't want to miss them, you might have to hop on a train north if you just missed them, or south if they're not blooming yet.

Have fun.
Mostly March/April, but it depends on other circumstances so it differs every year. When it gets close to the blossom season, Japanese weather channels have some section for cherry blossom, kinda like hurricane channel.
