I want to know why my climbing rose bush will not bloom?

It is very important to prune roses to promote new blooms. Every year in early spring each stem should be cut back to the first 5 leaf grouping. You will notice that closer to the end the leaves are in clusters of 3, go past this point and prune just above the 5 leaf cluster. This will stimulate the rose bush to grow up (new roses) rather than grow down (new roots). Repeat this process periodically throughout the growing season after the new blooms fall off and you will continue to get new flowers. It is also very important to feed your roses every spring and fall. There is specialty rose fertilizer at your local walmart or home depot. Roses are a lot of work but are really beautiful.I want to know why my climbing rose bush will not bloom?
It may have been winter killed and another reason is the main roots could be dry. Dig around the bush as far as the roots are and feel the condition of the roots. If they are fragile and break when handled, it is time to replace the bush.I want to know why my climbing rose bush will not bloom?
Did you allow the root ball to be buried under the ground? If you did, your climbing rose bush was probably grafted onto something else, perhaps a wild rose and has reverted back to the original root stock. That could be your problem. If it is, you, will have to dig it up and replant. Make sure the rootball is above the ground. That's extremely important.

Check at the bottom of the plant and see if you can see the root ball...if you can't, soil and/or mulch has covered it. This is one of the things you have to really watch with roses.
