50/50 chance, the plant will be ';shocked'; from being uprooted. The best time to move bulb plants is when they are dormant. You won't kill the iris plant, but you will probably hurt the blooms. Irises are best divided and transplanted in the early fall. I'm certainly no IRIS expert, but here is what happened when we moved into our house early last Spring.......





There were established flower beds in places that there needed to be none and in most of those beds were IRIS plants - just coming up. I wanted to keep them, but not where they were.





I went out when the soil was a little moist, NOT MUDDY and dug up several plants with lots and lots of dirt with them. I transplanted them into the newly established beds I had made earlier and was lucky enough for them to survive.





I will admit that blooms that first year were scarce, but the plants themselves looked great.





When I spoke to our local nursery, he said my saving point was the fact that I took lots and lots of the 'familar' dirt with the plants.

In all probability NO. They need to be planted in the fall in order to be rooted well enough in the spring to bloom.
If you water it well the day before transplanting,this will help to prevent shock....Dig it out and plant it right away...Actually and hopefully your iris will not suffer...
You can move irises any time you want. They are almost invincible. We had some growing through 3' of concrete that had been poured on top of them
Sometimes they do if you take a big enough chunk of soil with them but seldom will they if you totally desturb their roots...Lets
