When is the best time to prune rose bushes that bloom all summer long?

My roses are pruned when I see dead limbs any time of year. This reduces the stress on the rose. If you need to keep it trimmed for size its better to prune in dormant state.


Banana peelings make Roses do really good. I also found that a dab of Ivory dish soap diluted ..so its mild, will keep the Japanese beetles from feeding on them. These insects will prune for you if not watching your roses.


You can prune in the spring if when you check the rose and find dead limbs on it.

Have often heard that January is the best time. Get your fertilizer ready as roses are heavy 'feeders'.
it's best to prune them as the flowers die off. once all the blooms are gone prune the whole bush before the rosehips grow

A heavy pruning, back to just canes, in the fall after the growing season. Prune or deadhead, all summer long to encourage new flowers. I use them for cut flowers and bring them in.
February is best time to prune roses.
